1999 quest audiovox AVT 597 floor console removal

I just acquired a 99 quest that has a non-functioning audiovox AVT 597 tv/vcr floor console. I`m trying to trouble shoot the problem starting with the power connections. The manual says to check the lighter plug at the base of the console. I pulled the 6 screws on the back side of the unit which looks like the back side would slide off but no luck anyone know how I can get inside to check the power and fuses ? Ive been searching the internet all morning with no luck at all. This is a vertical vcr mount ( sideways, up and down ) I would love to upgrade this unit to the DVD if possible..

The power connector of the console is down at the bottom of the console at driver's side. You should see a small metal plug (between console and drivers seat). Unless someone worked in the console power cord to hide it, the VCR console came with an external power cord that plugs in the lighter plug in the main front console. The cord plugged at the lighter and to the small metal plug I just mentioned at the begining of the paragraph. If the power cord was hidden by the installer, the cord should enter the console from beneath the carpet. If it is not there, the external power cord was lost.
