2001 Quest Radiator Hose (s) replacement

aldequest's picture

Mechanic told me that based on the year (2001) and his visual inspection, I should change the radiator hoses on my van. He quoted me a price of around $280 which seems a little excessive but Iunderstand that probab;y 80% of this is labor. It appears that there are three radiator related hoses wich pressure clamps holding them in place. I'm reasonably machanically inclined and wonder if anyone has any experience with changing them and is this a reasonably simple task or should I just bite the bullet and let teh mechanic change them.

Thanks

i don't know your mechanical ability

top and bottom hoses are easy to do, you just need some channel pliers to remove those clamps and i usually replace them with the worm-style clamps anyways

major thing to do is to make sure you properly bleed the system of air bubbles afterwards & might as well use new coolant/distilled water while your changing out the old coolant

i guess the third hose you're talking about is the bypass hose

might as well check the heater core hoses as well & get them replaced if they're brittle/hard
