Loud vibration at 2000 RPM

In the last month or so our 2005 Quest has started to make a loud noise when accelerating at around 2000 RPM. It's especially annoying when climbing hills when the RPM's are right in the range that creates the vibration. Anyone else experience this or have ideas as to what it could be? Could it be an exhaust or motor mount bushing? I wouldn't be surprised if it was an exhaust leak based on the sound but it runs quiet otherwise.

2004+ Quest rattle at 2000 rpm
I just twisted the THREE! heat shields under my Quest to reduce/ change the humm frequency on my 2004 Quest. I took a pair of dykes and did a Half turn twist and pull out near the mounting screws, and a twist every 4 inches all along the lenght of each shield. Instead of buzzing at 2000 rpm and 65 mph, it now will lightly hum at 2200 rpm and 73 mph. You have to do all three shields.
Vibration during acceleration
My wife's 05 Quest SE had a heat shield vibration during hard acceleration. It sounded like a "tinny" rattle. It was most annoying. It took 2 trips to the dealer and on the 2nd trip, I made the tech drive with me so they could hear the noise. It took several demonstrations before the tech admitted to hearing it. They found where the heat shield was loose and fixed the issue. Vibration is gone. If you have this problem, make the tech drive with you and demonstate the noise.
Exhaust noise
We had a rattle with the exhaust as well and the fix per the dealer was to replace the exhaust gussets which did seem to fix this problem. I wish all problems with this van were this easy to fix.
Exhaust noise at 2000 RPM's
Mine was noticeable when I purchased the 20004 Quest. They told me that it was an exhaust problem and that there was not any fix for it. I now have 44,000 miles and it is not any better. It is the worst problem with this vehicle.
re: Loud vibration
I brought it in to the dealership and naturally they couldn't duplicate the problem after having it all day. I followed the link on this page to "Nissan Quest TSB" and found 2 tsb's related to vibrations. I found the complete descriptions for the tsb's on nissanhelp.com. I asked the service guy if he checked for these 2 tsb's and he was dismissive. Well, this evening I drove the car up on the ramps and the problem shown in tsb 05021 was as obvious as it could be. They would have seen it if they would have looked for it. The "catalyst front tube support bracket" is cracked all the way through. It's going to be satisfying to go to the dealer with the tsb printout and a picture of the bracket I took on my car.
Here is a link to a picture of the broken bracket. I can't figure out how to post a picture on here.

Holy Cow
Did this solve your problem? I have an 05 Quest 3.5S, just started making this horrible tuba sound at and only at about 2000 RPM under load, not in neutral. I looked under the van, near the cats, and there was the L shaped bracket, broken just exactly like your picture. I unbolted it, and it still makes the same noise. Did they replace the bracket to fix the noise? Do you know what they did to fix the problem? I am wondering personally if mine is actually the muffler, but I am at 43,800 miles, wouldn't think a stock muffler would need replaced already but who knows.
Any help from you is greatly appreciated, and thank you in advance
Brian
Just wondering if you ever
Just wondering if you ever found out what was causing the noise on your Quest. I have an '04 Quest with the same problem. In park or Neutral I can't hear the noise, but in drive between 2,000 and 2,200 RPM's I can hear (what seems to be ) an exhaust leak. Very annoying!!
I am kind of afraid that it may be my Transmission?
-Any info would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks, Brian
RE: Just wondering if you ever
Read the message two up from yours. It's a pretty common repair on the post 2004 Quests.
2004 Quest S
tuba sound
Nissan just installed a new engine in my 2005 quest S(28K miles) and I have the same problem with the new engine. It makes the same tuba sound around 2000 rpm.Plus on the highway at any speed if the rpm is 2000rpm I get the sound again.it also feel like it not shifting.Any suggestions about the sound.I am taking it back to the dealer on monday but will like to know what can possibly cause this.Just in case the gave me some BS explanation.
Thanks.
Thanks, I did find a broken
Thanks,
I did find a broken bracket. I repaired, but I still have the same noise. I do not hear it in neutral or in park only in drive @ 2,000 rpms. Just wondering if I may have a combination of problems? Did anyone have this same problem and have a definite repair result?
Thanks,
Brian
re: Holy Cow
After they replaced it, it was still loud. Now that a few years have passed, I don't notice the sound as much. I'm not sure what has changed.
bracket
I had that happen to my 04 van that I bought used in December just a month after purchase. It turned out to be defect in a bracket/bolt, not sure of the specifics, but it did have to do with the exhaust. When this fixture broke it caused a crack to form in the exhaust and that really loud noise to show up. It doesn't hurt the van to drive it, but it does get really annoying. Anyway, the dealer fixed it at no cost to me as they were aware of the potential problems. It has happened more with pathfinders, but they have seen it on Quests as well. I would push your dealer to take care of this. You shouldn't have to deal with it.
Maybe that's what was really wrong with mine...
I didn't go to the trouble you did, just took it to Nissan and said fix it. The answer they gave was "loose heat shield" and I took them for their word. But now that you mention it I do remember him saying there was a TSB on it. Glad you found your problem.
What kind of gas are you
What kind of gas are you using? Can it be knocks and pings? That is about the rpm it would accur while going up a hill.
Just a thought.
Not knocking or pinging
It's a loud low frequency vibration and it happens under load within a narrow rpm range. Although it is nothing like knocking or pinging, I did try a tank of premium to see if it was gas related. It made no difference.
A (or some) heat shield
A (or some) heat shield bolt(s) came loose on ours. Made an annoying vibration sound under similar conditions. A trip to the service department fixed the problem.
2000 rpm noise
My 2004 sounded like an exhaust leak at 2000 rpm. Ended up to be a belt that needed to be replaced.
