PlEASE STATE ALL THE PROBLEMS YOU HAVE HAD WITH YOUR NISSAN QUEST

I've had so my share of problems with this van but I'm wondering if I'm not alone. I was wondering what kind of problems have you guys experience with the 2004+ Nissan Quest. POST AWAY!

2004 Nissan Quest SE
I bought the Van with 93,890 miles in Oct. 2010 from "Thrifty Car Sales" in Westfield, MA. for $9,970.00
They Refused to fix the vibration issue with the "Vent Blower" and they pretended the timing chain noise was nothing, just that the vehicle was cold, well at the time the noise would stop or get barely noticeable, bottom line, I was told it was normal on these "Vans"...It's O.K., I'm sure they'll get there turn very soon.
With out further due, Here is my list:
1.Interior lights fall off.
2.Low tire indicator on all the time.
3.Clicking sound from engine has been identified as bad "Timing Chain".
4.Already had to spend $470.00 to fix the "High Pressure Power Steering Hose"
5."Power Sliding Door" Stopped working.
6.Paid $200.00 to fix one "Upper Tie Rod End" and reset the "Air Bag Light".
7.Rear Brakes were a nightmare to do, I will need a complete "Rear Brake Hardware Kit" in the future.
8.The "Vent Blower" under the dash broke a couple blades and would vibrate horribly when turned up to the Mid/Highest setting, I took it out and removed the fan blades on the broken side and put it back, now there isn't any vibration and it blows enough air to keep you warm or cool.
9.Tires last about 30,000 miles on this van, so get really good tires with like 80,000 miles and keep them rotated.
10."CD Player" Never worked from the dealer, didn't notice till I tried a CD 3 months later...LOL! My fault.
11.Well something is bound to happen so here ___________________ (fill in the blank).
Thanks & God Bless!
2006 radio?
We've had the van a few years now and it's not bad, but it's not been w/out issues;
passenger rear door wouldn't open then when we had the same issue with the drivers rear door. we had to have the dealer replace a failed cable in them.
I let the battery die recently and now the radio will not power on
Another new issue since the dead batt is the tire icon flashes for 1 min after turning the key on (manual says that's a dealer required fix)
Any suggestions to avoid allowing the dearer to lay their hands on it in the shop they won't allow anyone to watch in???

2004 quest shut off while driving
2004 quest with 223500 miles, great van. but started to shut off while driving. the service soon comes on, slip and tcs also. had it serviced and they could not find anything wrong. they said that it could be bad gas. after about 30 or so miles the lights will all go out. anyone have any thoughts? thanks
RE: quest shut off while driving
Did they tell you what the code was that triggered the service engine soon? that will help with diagnosing the problem.
2004 Quest S
We own a 2004 Nissan Quest
We own a 2004 Nissan Quest that has approximately 125k miles on it. We will soon start the process of choosing a replacement vehicle and based on our experience with this van, have decided to eliminate Nissan as a choice for our next vehicle.
First, we loved the vehicle when we bought it new. However, within the first 6 months of owning the vehicle, we started to experience problems with the vehicle. These issues, listed below, have not been resolved by the dealer and continue to crop up.
The rear passenger door will not work automatically. We have repeatedly cleaned the door jam out asked asked to dealer to fix the issue. The door will only close manually.
The rear hatch frequently has the same issue. Sometimes it will work by pushing the button on the key fob or console. Occasionally you have to open it by hand. Other times require reaching into the access panel in the door to manually actuate the lever.
Many of the plastic trim pieces have fallen off. This includes the hatch activation button inside the rear door, two of the rear interior lights, the rubber grips on the gas and brake pedal, the rear vents, the plastic door handle on the back of the van, and the driver's side visor($200 to fix!)
The driver's window refuses to stay up unless you hold the button up for a few seconds after the window closes.
The van occasionally starts in 2nd or 3rd gear and won't shift unless you pull to the side of the road and restart the vehicle.
The horn no longer works.
The driver's armrest has always tipped down...even after asking the dealer to take care of it.
The lug wrench broke the first time I used it.
No matter how many times I have the tire sensor gauges fixed or replaced, they continue to leak and send intermittent signal to the van, resulting in constant low pressure warnings and stops at service stations to refill the tires.
We have to adjust the clock every couple of months because it will have gained 10 minutes or so during that time.
ECM failure due to water intrusion-$1250 to replace
Tie rod issues
We have also experienced repeated issues with the brakes.
Hmmm, where to start...
I traded my O4 Chevy Silverado Ext cab in on the wife a 2005 Nissan Quest (base model) becuase we needed room for our growing family. Van was pretty good untill this year.
I do not drive the Van so everytime I ride in it I notice things.
The following is my list:
117,000 miles avg fuel economy about 24-25mpg
The seat latch recall thing.
Paint on this van SUCKS!!!!!! bird poop will take it off, bug guts will take it off, soap and water will probably take it off!!!!. Paint was coming of bumper and hood, the dealers paint shop said tha if the paint does not pull off with a piece of "easy to remove" green painters tape, it isn't bad. Even the paint shop manager said it was total BS!!!! But thanks to a deer and good insurance most of the problem areas got repainted.
Rear wiper blade fell apart with about 10k on the van, warranty would not cover since it was normal wear item. We might have used it 3 times. Dealer item at the time. Now I geat it locally
Front passenger arm rest sloppy loose at pivot, out of warranty. I may fix it...if it falls off.
Tires, tires, tires....This thing eats tires like there krispy kremes. You have to keep them rotated and the front end aligned or they go fast. Next set will be truck tires!!!!
Interior lights stay on sometimes....we just turn them off on the dash.
Battery died within the first 3 yrs...skipped the dealer bought the best I could get.
One of the tire pressure monitors started to malfunction every now and then. Then a service station hung a large airchuck on it and broke the bad one....what are the chances. So they installed a regular valvestem....it works great other than the flat tire indicator on the dash.
The digital odometer has numbers that do not work completely. I just use the maintenace computer to track service intervals.
CD player died recently...I am going to open it up.
Driverside window used to auto up then drop back down 2"...now it won't auto up. Just as well, still works holding the switch.
Traction Control Off indicator came on once...it self-repaired. It could have been moisture since the wife had to drive through a huge down pour and lots of water the day before it came on.
Cam sensor went out completely, I just replaced both. EASY JOB!!!!!! Don't give away your money. Bought mine from Advance Auto Parts, lifetime warranty and cost about $140 for the two of them together.
We have a bump when the tranny downshifts while going down the road. Think it is a mount(s) going bad. We'll find out next week after she takes it for service.
Some of the local service center can't seem to add the right amount of oil, I blame the funky dipstick, as it is hard to read some times.
Brakes don't last long, so I started using the best I could buy, seems to help. I am a strong believer in surfacing (turning) rotors before installing new brakes.
At one time the engine was making a ticking sound but it is not noticeable now. I figure it was the timing chain. Not sure why it stopped??
There is a clanking clicking sound coming from the driverside front tire. Best I can tell it is at the CV axle or the hub assembly. Only makes it when you first accelerate either forward or reverse just several clanks. Never when you turn so I dont thing it is the cv axle internal bearings...ANY IDEAS????
Most of our out of pocket has been tires, brakes, alignments, and normal service stuff. aside from the cam position sensors. Overall I am not happy with the quality or the customer service from Nissan especially about the paint. We bought the extended warranty, that was a waste of Money!!!! We never used it once!!!!! WE WILL NOT OWN ANOTHER QUEST OR NISSAN PRODUCT!!!!!!
Before you open up the CD
Before you open up the CD player, try disconnecting the battery for a few hours. Our CD player went bad and the speaker controls were not operating. When we replaced the battery everything worked fine.
2009 Nissan Quest rear cupholder
Has anyone else experienced difficulty with Nissan standing behind their Bumper to Bumper Warranty.
This spring my adult daughter was exiting the 2nd row seat and as her leg was reacching for the ground the outboard cupholder cracked. Took it to the local dealership to be fixed under warranty and was refused. Initially the service rep that helped me agreed to the design problem as he could not get out without puttting some weight on the plastic piece but he had to wait for his managers return from vacation to get approval.I called a month later to find out why no follow up. I was informed then it would not be fixed under warranty.
Contacted Nissan directly and eventually heard from the regional person and she informed my wife, who took the call, it would not be covered. My wife requested a number I could follow up with and was told it would do no good as their decision was final and that no one else ever complained about this isssue.
Responed to a survey from Nissan service about a month ago, told my story in detail and never rec'd a follow up call. This is a new norm for Nissan. I went from a fan of my 06 Quest who recommended that car to anyone who would listen to a disgruntled customer that tells any potential customer to stay away from the newer Nissans.
They lost a customer for life over not fixing a warranty item that probably would have cost them less than $100.
Allll the stuff wrong
I had to register just to be able to share ALLLLL of the crap wrong with my quest. The recent being the most intolerable.
Purchased in early 2010 with 80k miles. Now have 140k (drive alot for work).
1. When purchased, no interior overhead lights work and dash lights work intermittently.
2. Rear "beepy" thing went out after a few months.
3. New trasmission had to be put after 3 months- $3000.
4. New wheel hub assemblies and alignment $800.
5. New tires (of course)
6. New Battery
7. Front brakes and rotors.
8. A/c condensor is leaking.
9. Catalytic Converter is bad and needs replacing.
10. Shakes going over 70mph regardless of being correctly aligned.
11. Leaking oil right now, slow leak tho thankfully.
12. Back breaks needs replacing now and I'm quite certain the rotors will as well... also currently needs aligning, again.
The current bain of my existence is the AC. It started leaking freon last May. I was told it was a $500 condensor to be replaced. I didn't have the money, so I purchased some sealant from WM that seals cracks in metal and added more freon. That lasted most of last summer into early fall, then I had to add a new batch of both. Since we began having hot weather in late March (I live in south alabama), I've added 2 cans of sealer and multiple cans of freon. Last week, it was showing full on my little hand meter thing that I use to add the freon so I stopped by a local shop. They said it was full.. of AIR and had to bleed it. They added 3 more cans for me. I felt raped after being charged $82 for these 3 cans and labor (5 minutes). It's already no longer blowing cold air 5 days later except out of 2 vents. I do not have dual control or anything like that, this is an 2005 SE. Any ideas why it would blow cold out of the passenger vents (or cool rather, not cold) and HOT air out of all the other vents?
Taking it to a shop tomorrow. I sat in traffic and it was 104 today without an a/c. Can't stand it anymore! Any input would be appreciated!
ETA: AND I have a CD stuck in my cd player... just clicks when trying to eject.
re: all the stuff
hot air/cold air is symptom that the freon is low again in the A/C. The only fix is replacing the condenser. it can't hold the freon. Try searching on EBay for a used one.
Shaking over 70 mph: Check the balance in your tires. if this is fine, get the "front end" checked. I had the same issue with my 2004 Quest. Tires were slightly out of balance but the front control arm bushings were shot. I had to replace both control arms since the bushings are not serviceable in this vehicle (Thanks Nissan!!)
rear "beepy" thing - Likely cause is the speaker for the backup sensors is bad. It's very easy to replace yourself. A number of owners on www.nissanhelp.com have had this issue. A simple search there will show you the directions.
2004 Quest S
At the moment I have: 1.
At the moment I have:
1. Rotors that warped after 20,000 miles
2. Windows that roll down by 2" if auto-rolled up.
3. Backup alarm just quit and lights up "off" light whenever I back up.
4. Passenger sliding door acting up 75% of the time and not closing all the way.
This is 50,000 miles 2005 Quest barely driven.
2004 Nissan Quest
My mom's Quest has been trouble free since new. Only had the CEL come on once and was fixed at no charge after warranty.
At 99k, its on the second set of tires(Yokohomas) second battery, 2nd set of belts. The transmission was flushed around 80k at the dealer, but it has been actually a bit weird, with erratic shifting if you drive it hard when its cold. Maybe I need to change the fluid and filter. Still has the original air filter, it won't get dirty.
The brakes have been the only annoyance on the quest, but that is due do the brake shop doing a poor job and not using Nissan parts. It had the notorious oil leak, which was a cheap simple fix, $4 and good as new, no other leaks, except for low coolant reservoir but I haven't looked into it.
I am replacing the front struts and mounts this week, since they are clunking. Oil changes every 5k, I do them or its taken to the dealer occasionally. It is a bit noisy inside and the interior is very low quality but it doesn't bother us.
2005 Nissan Quest
Right now we are experiencing issues with the ball joints. We are at 123 000 km and my husband noticed that both sides ball joints need to be replaced. We received an estimate from a friend who works at the dealer, $260 each. Ouch. My husband knows his way around cars/vans/trucks and has replaced ball joints on other vehicles and the cost around $20-40.
We changed the tie rods at 100 000km. And my husband said that is very unusual.
Another issue as mentioned from others, it sits so low and bumps a lot of things.
The digital odometer and gas/temperature gauge does not work.
The sliding door freezes shut and hard to get open.
More to come I am sure.
You have to replace Left &
You have to replace Left & Right Lower Arm with Control Ball Joint Assembly. You cannot replace just the ball joint. Had the balljoints done before and needed to take it back to have mechanic tell me that I needed to replace Arm w/ball joint. Go to Amazon.com and you can get the Beck/Arnley for $100.80 piece with free shipping.
'04 Needs and Engine?
Our Quest was bought new in 2004 and has 111K miles on it. We've kept up with oil changes and just recently had to get it jump started by AAA and upon getting it jumped, the tow truck driver said our timing belt (it's a chain though) sounded bad. The next day we went to our local dealer who charged ~$50 to tell us we needed the secondary timing belt changed (including tensioners of course) which aligned with the 2007 Bulletin Nissan put out. They also said we should consider just getting a new engine because often when the cover is removed to do the belts, the engine is sludged up and you just need an engine anyway--either then or after 1000-1500 miles. Nothing was said about other issues like oil pressure because they didn't check it, and how is it one Nissan dealership equated timing chain issues to engine failure while the other denies this connection??
Today we took the van to another dealership. We'd been told over the phone they never see these Quests need an engine, and even upon arriving we got the "there's no way" but surprisingly, 15 minutes later the bad news was broken to us that we do need an engine and unlike the first dealership, they NEW it. There was very little oil pressure and low oil, but they didn't check the pressure after adding some oil. And we were told Wal Mart oil changes are a bad way to go (ie putting catastrophic oil failure on Wal Mart) and it was insinuated our oil light must have flickered at some point, although it hasn't, and when I asked if this was so serious why didn't the sensor detect it, was told Nissan Quest sensors don't come on until the vehicle is dry. Is this yet another problem with Nissan's design?? What good is a sensor if it only detects catastrophic engine failure??
Overall we can't help but wonder if both dealerships know that when an '04 Quest is making noise and has this number of miles, it needs an engine. They approached it differently since the first shop said to look at the timing chains and that might then reveal engine sludge, the 2nd in 10-15 mins knew there was not enough oil. No one seemed to think that just maybe this van has only started to burn oil internally, or maybe 3000 miles ago enough wasn't added. Shop 1 says shop 2 didn't do a thorough oil pressure check in such a short time. I don't know who isn't telling us the truth or full story, but something isn't adding up. A third shop will assess tomorrow and we hope to get to the bottom of this. It is disconcerting that Shop 2 was ready to have us do a trade for a new vehicle and was clearly surprised when I said I will not buy another new Nissan. This is our 3rd and last, especially with what they are saying is engine failure after 6.5 yrs of driving.
Let us know what the third
Let us know what the third says. Our van is approaching 100K and I know our timing chain is making some noise, but I can not see replacing the whole engine. We do not burn a drop of oil between oil changes.
our 2004 Quest
It is hard to remember all the problems we've had with our Quest. I wrote to Nissan about 9 times trying to get them to buy it back--of course to no avail. Most of our issues began shortly after purchase. We've had a nice lull with just the window issue and and sunroof every now and again, but now this repair we are waiting to hear from them about could be very expensive. We have to pay nearly $100 for the diagnosis which does not get discounted if we do the repair there. I find that to be poor customer service and I've already started calling other Nissan dealerships to see who will do this repair for the best price. (see below, #6)
Some of our issues have been:
1. sunroof wouldn't close, took several visits to fix, still have to be careful inching it closed
2. driver seat back had to be replaced
3. driver armrest has never been right, sits too low to use comfortably, looks like wrong one but they say it is fine...
4. passenger window kicks back down when autoclosing, have to inch it up carefully so it stays closed
5. passenger slider wouldn't close right, they fixed it
6. now we're having timing chain issues, think we'll be dealing with the 2009 service bulletin issue they released and quotes I've gotten are $1600-$2800, all from various dealerships b/c our regular shop doesn't have the 3 special tools to do the repair (secondary timing chains and tensioner shoes)
7. had radio button sticking/not responding
8. side mirror clicking and not readjusting right, was replaced
9. undercarriage (muffler etc) has been replaced twice-this thing rides so low and it has banged speed bumps resulting in failing inspection, but we can say it's user error although the design isn't ideal
10. low tire pressure warning light comes on at around 30 degrees, stays on-no biggie, just one of those things like the window that kicks back down after you try and shut it
Overall our issues have been electrical. It's our 3rd new Nissan, 4th overall, and our last. I don't feel the company adequately addressed the problems with this generation even after Business Week did an article on the assembly problems that were discovered, which led to it dropping from a high rating (around 4th?) to somewhere around 13th--if memory serves me right.
2005 Nissan Quest
I bought this vehicle for my wife new in 2006 as a left over. She has never owned a new car and was excited. Recently the ABS motor comes on while driving down the road under normal conditions. It won't shut off until you have almost stopped and a growling sound in the brake pedal. Both automatic sliding doors have ceased to work and you can not even open them manually. Like some kind of lock is preventing it. We have had the motors replaced while under warranty. However, about 2 months after our extended warranty expired, so did the doors. Any clues as to how to get the doors open even if manually? My children are tired of climbing up through the front seat. Thanks! frustrated in Oklahoma...
2004 Nissan Quest
I bought a 2004 Quest with a faulty transmission in 2008. I replaced the transmission 2009. Recently, the transmission takes a while before it changes from 1 to 2, etc. It was diagnosed today that the gear box was bad and needs to be replaced. I wonder if there is something damaging the transmission. I am reluctant to replace it unless there is an assurance that it would last as a normal transmission would. Further, the panel that controls the air conditioner and stereo doesn't work so also the radio. I have bought the stereo but yet to fix because I am yet to see the control panel.
Navigation
IHAVE AN '04 QUEST, BUT IT CAME WITHOUT THE NAVIGATION SYSTEM NOR A JACK TO CONNECT MY IPOD. I'M WONDERING WHAT'S MY BEST, AND CHEAPEST OPTION? I WANTED TO HIT UP A JUNK YARD TO C IF THEY HAVE THE NAVIGATION, SO I COULD REPLACE MY STANDARD DASH, BUT I'M UNSURE IF IT'LL BE COMPATABLE WITH MY CAR. AN INSTALLER SUGGESTED TO INSTALL THE REAR VIEW NAVIGATION W/ BACK-UP CAMERA, BUT I'M AFRAID OF IT BEING STOLEN, IF POSSIBLE, PLUS IT'S $800 W/ INSTALLATION. PRETTY STEEP, BUT I KNOW MY WIFE WOULD LOVE IT. ANY OTHER SUGGESTIONS FOR ME? I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE IT. THANX IN ADVANCE.
probably too late...
My advice - dump the Quest. If you are going to put any money in it, invest in a cover to protect the ecm. The design is flawed - water drips down the windshield and corrodes the ecm - ask your dealer, they'll tell you.
2004 Quest is a piece of crap. I have dropped nearly $5000 in the last year - ecm, tires, brakes (rear and front - rear twice), lower control arms (needed ball joints and conveniently you cannot replace alone), multiple alignments, ABS sensor cracked when they removed the old brakes - dealer told my mechanic that you cannot replace brakes without replacing sensor, Nissan built it that way. Replaced the battery, radio doesn't work, and gas meter and odometer are not legible - can only see half of the numbers. Oh yeah, reason I am on tonight - my sliding door FELL off, no you did not read wrong. Having problems with the automatic slider and opened this evening and when I tried to force it closed, the door fell off. I will NEVER buy another Quest, nor a Nissan
Transmission Issue or Engine Skip?
We have noticed lately with our 2007 Nissan Quest S that while travelling down the highway at normal speed (55-65) we feel a little buck or skip. Seems to happen at least once on each trip we make. Not a hugh buck or skip but enough to notice it. Have not been able to tell if the RPM changes or not since it comes and goes so fast. Has anyone else had any issues similar? Is it the engine or the transmission?
Transmission Issue or Engine Skip?
Have your motor mounts checked. I have a 2007 Nissan and when I went to have my state inspection, they said my front motor mount is broken and my rear motor mount is torn. Nissan says it's cracked, not broken so they won't fix it. (I have extended warranty and have 63,000 miles on my van). My car has engine skips because of this and it affecting my transmission. I'm currently fighting this. This is my first Nissan and it WILL BE my last. Good Luck!
Transmission Issue or Engine Skip?
Sent letters to Nissan and Nissan Warranty. Was actually surprised to get a quick response. They replaced my front motor mount and they also discovered that the right low control arm was broken and replaced it as well. Is running much, much better. This fixed the very loose front end problem and the engine skips.
2004 Quest S
Purchased new in December 2003. Outside the 2004 Quality Initiative recall, here's the issues I've had:
- Exhaust bracket replaced under warranty (TSB)
- Transmission computer issue (loose wire; done under warranty)
- front tie rods replaced
- lower control arms replaced (purchased online; mechanic installed)
- Camshaft sensors replaced (P0340) (Very slow to get to speed)
- VAIC sensor replaced
- persistent rattle in driver side sliding door; paid 3 times to have it fixed, still rattles; learned to live with it
- Rotors???!!!?? Replace front and rear rotors alternating years due to warping. The 2004 & 2005 brakes were under-designed. The front were done in June 2010; the rears need to be done now. I understand the front rotors warping but not the rear.
- front driver side engine protector (black piece under car) needs replacing.
The dealership experience has been very poor. I would not rush out to buy another Nissan Quest. Based on their sales of the 2004-2009 Quest, I'm not sure why Nissan continues in this segment.
2004 Quest S
2007 SL
At 60,000kms the only problem we've had is the front rotors warping badly and very early. Seems to be a recurring problem with this vehicle. Went with aftermarket rotors (Frozen Rotors) and pads (Hawk) and all has been well since.
2004 quest
Driver and passenger lower ball joints at $800 (dealer) for the job. Good old all in one theory.... no no cant replace just the ball joint have to replace the whole "A" arm.

2005 nissan quest no interior lights
my interior lights including map lights no longer work
have always experienced vibration when braking
what is a bcm? and where is that located ???
2004 Quest
2004 Quest SE 108000 miles
So Far:
Replaced Front Hub Bearing wheel assemblies. $800 with alignment
Replaced brakes
replaced tires
replaced serpentine belt
interior lights did not work -- replaced BCM
replaced driver's side window motor -- had to reset adjustments
Problems I couldn't figure out on my own:
Shifter solenoid will not allow shifter to shift into gear -- need to manually override with screwdriver -- replaced shifter no help
pedal adjuster won't function
seat memory won't function
sliding doors and liftgate won't automatically open -- probably needs computer reset
backup sensor will not sound
I will be taking it to Nissan for at least a week to see if they can figure it out. They said last time they will need to contact the engineers because they couldn't figure it out on my previous visit.

2005 nissan quest s
A few days ago my van started jerking hard when shifting from 1st to second gear and somtimes, very hard into third gear.
I took it to AAMCO transmissions they could not find any thing wrong with the transmission. They said it could be a control, computer, and/or an electronic problem. They advised me to take it to the dealer .I did as they told me too and the dealer said it is the "valve body" and that it needs to be replaced @ a cost of $1250.00. And i want to know; Does it honestly cost that much to fix it? my van only has 64,207 miles on it. I also had problems with the tire pressure senser light(its happend THREE times)and i had the tires checked by Firestone and there was the right amount of air pressure in the tires, but the light was still on. when adding more air to the right passenger tire and driving a few miles the light goes off, but that makes the air pressure in all four tires different. also the steering wheel shakes when I apply the brakes,i was told by Firestone, that the rotors need to be turned.

2004 Quest SL
Have just over 250,000 (mostly highway) miles on my Quest. Don't ever want to get rid of it...but it might have to finally happen.
1)First thing to go was running board lights. Too expensive to repair so left it alone. Don't need em.
2)CD has been stuck in player for a couple of years but use Sat radio mostly anyway.
3)Blew the concealed front pod power supply and could never find the right fuse to replace. Use the one on the side now.
4)Have replaced front hubs twice. Once at about 120,000 and again at 225,000.
5)Replaced fuel pump at around 180,000 miles.
6)AC system hose leak recently fixed.
7)Drivers power window just stopped working. Replaced motor but still not working. Waiting for new switch now. Hopefully that's the problem. All other windows do work normally.
8)Shift has just started to be stiff to operate. Have to start in neutral.
Other than regular oil and fluid changes and flushes, plugs, belts and hoses, engine and trans have been very reliable and still run like new.
I'd like to investigate the shifting problem but have no idea how to disassemble the pod. Might fix the CD too if I could get to it. Any suggestions would be welcome. Thanks.

01 Quest POS
We bought this car used with 32K on it in 04, with the remainder of the factory warranty. After the first 6 months, the fan blower resistor pack went kaput. Took it to the dealer in PUEBLO, CO and they replaced the resitor under warranty. 6 months later, it went out again. Replaced again under warrant. 6 months later, with warranty expired, had the same problem. Took it back and they said it wasn't the resistor pack but the blower motor that needed to be replaced. The difference was a $39 part under warranty and a $300 part that we had to purchase. The blower is out again.
With 130k on it, the passenger side slider is jacked up. The furthest aft side window has a small bracket on it that catches the slider and prevents it from opening. Huge safety issue there. It can be repaired temporarily by pushing the latch back into place, but it will eventually work itself loose again...and then the window that it holds in fell out. Without warning the thing just dropped out of the car and onto the ground. My wife was able to get it back into place and as long as she doesn't open the window, it stays.
The car is extremely noisy on the road with rattles everywhere. It now has a weird little klunk in the front end when you start driving. I also recently replaced the CV boot on the driver side - it had split wide open and all the grease leaked out.
I've never liked this van but with 3 kids, it worked out for the time that we needed it. I'll be happy to trade it off soon and get a Toyo or Honda and be done with the Nissan POS and the crappy customer service.

Nissan 2004 quest Issues
2nd owner of 2004 Nissan Quest- Bought Nissan certified at 40,000 miles- now with 96000 miles.
Issues to date:
Interior window switches and controls fixed at purchase
*Front AC does not work as well as other cars- notice air
is colder From passenger side center console vent than Drivers side
* X/M Radio is intermittent at times- requires restarting car to get signal back
* Engine Motor mount is broke - never been in accident- only feel small lunge at
start from stop
* Powersteering hose from driving gear to pump replaced - $4xx.00
* Had been burning oil since purchased- at 91,000 started to pass a small flume
of white smoke from exhaust on at some engine start ups- thought the rings or
valve seals were gone- turned out it may have been PVC valve. Dealer replaced
with valve cover gasket with integrated PVC- flume and oil burn look to be
corrected - warranty
* Drivers side wheel hub is making noise at speeds over 20mph - needs to be replace
OEM part is around $140 at nissan dealer on line- list $17X.00
* Airbag sensor just started flashing- this could be a TSB- might be expensive
Love the room and the looks, gas mileage is acceptable. Would never have bought this new. Hope it will last 175,000 plus.
2005 Nissan Quest Transmission Problems
I've had my share of problems with this minivan. I don't even know where to begin! :( My worst problems right now is that it looses power all of a sudden and skips especially at around 20mph. The dealer always tell my husband and I that they can't find anything wrong. I believe the problem is the transmission and electrical. This has been a problem for us now for about 9 months and it's getting worst. The only thing we can do now is to let it break down completely down before we can get something done. I'm thinking of having a new transmission installed just to play it safe. I'd like to take it to a private mechanic but affraid and don't trust them either. We also had to have our dash board replace because the tire lite and the engine lite kept flickering on and off and the gas gage kept reading incorrectly. This went on for about 8 months after them constantly saying they don't know what the problem is. There's more problems but I'm tired of discussing them so I'll just purchase me a toyota or a honda minivan next time around. I see that I'm not the only one with these problems although I thought I was! Oh well, good luck everyone with your minivan I hope it gets better for you all.
Engine Making Sounds When Cold
I have an 04 Quest 3.5 SL and since january 2010 I have been having a ticking sound coming from the engine on the belt side when cold. The sound goes away when the engine oil warms up. It sounds like the oil sending unit ( if it has one) is not working immediately. It does not leak oil, so I believe the oil pump is ok, but not sure. No compression problems or engine lag. My wife actually took the vehicle to Richmond VA and back with this condition and had no problems on the road.
What do any of you think??
149000 Miles.
answer
timing chain...
My 2004 quest does the same
My 2004 quest does the same thing.
Someone told me that there is a hydraulic timing belt/chain adjuster on this engine, and that is what is probably whats making the noise. I first thought it was a belt tensioner, but after replacing it I found out thats not where the sound is coming from.
Ours started making this noise at about 80,000 miles, we currently have 121,000 miles on it.
Nissan Quality NOT
We cannot even begin to explain what a nightmare owning two Nissans has been. We owned Toyotas previously, as well, and I would HIGHLY recommend not switching to Nissan. They do not stand by their products and if you spend any time at all on the web, you will see pages after pages of folks who have contacted Nissan North America, to no avail. They simply do not care, once you drive it off the lot. We purchased a new Versa and a new Sentra in 2007 and 2008. Both cars left us stranded out of state with major mechanical failures.
Summary, Versa: new engine placed at 35,000 miles-under warranty..bad valve causing lost compression.
new transmission placed at 56,000 miles under warranty. Pump in transmission bad.
Air conditioner blower motor gone at 50,000 (just bang the dash and it will run for a short
time. Not under warranty. All brake lights gone. Two hubcaps fell off.
Sentra: Transmission failed at 50,000 miles and left us driving in something called Fail Safe Mode
on major interstate in Alabama in the middle of no-where. Look up that one..Valve body in
transmission gone and had to leave out of state for rebuilding.
Two weeks later, our car will not shift into or out of park and is stuck in our garage. They
feel it's the brake light switch but "we can tow it and they will see if they will reimburse"
STICK IT UP YOUR TAILPIPE NISSAN!!!!! Yeah, we are pissed. Like I told them, we are people...people..not just a number or a bunch of angry kooks. We are a family trying to get to work!!! I would NEVER buy Nissan again!

2. Transmission 1-2 shift solenoid wire was loose causing harsh shifts at 80,000. Fixed by re soldering wire back to solenoid.
3. Rack & Pinion assembly replaced at 121,000 miles costing $785
Currently at 125,000 miles. No other problems have been detected.
2004 Nissan Quest SL
Anyone experience transmission problems with the 04 Quest?
We bought our 04 Nissan Quest brand spanking new with 7 miles on it. Had been driving for 4 years with no issues. All of a sudden the transmission started acting up. Took it to the dealer and they told us that the transmissin had completely died. Luckily it was still under warranty and they replaced it with no out of pocket expense. A year later, I am experiencing the exact same issues I did when the transmission went out before. Took it back to the dealership and the problem wasn't there anymore. My husband even test drove it with the mechanic. Now recently it's happening again. I stop at the light and it doesn't want to move. The warranty is expired, even the one we got with the new transmission. I have no money to even get it inspected as I'm sure the issue is an expensive one. And my husband doesn't even want to deal with it because he hated the van in the first place. I want to trade it in but I know I won't get much for it.
tailgate won't open after being in the sun
On a warm day, the tailgate will not open automatically after the vehicle has been left in the sun. I think I read on here that others have had this issue as well. I am waiting until spring to recreate the problem and take it to the dealer to have them replace the motor under warranty.
The passenger side front speaker in the front door buzzes. I complained and they replaced the speaker under warranty. It still buzzed. I always thought it was a trim piece.
Other than that, the vehicle has been reliable for the 18 months I have owned it.

Sunny Days
I live in San Antonio TX, this past summer we had over 30 consecutive days of over 100 degree weather. I know this heat fried my sunroof motor, it worked fine until it started to get hot. The motor sits right there under the roof and was baked to death - that is $250 from the dealer in case anyone wanted to know.
Thanks

Nissan Quality(?)
I had nothing but Toyotas since 1985 with a Subaru thrown in the mix. This is my first Nissan, and without a doubt, the Quest I have is the worst quality vehicle I have had since my last American car in the late 70's. On top of that, the Security Plus agreement I have is not backed up by the company and will not replace the backup warning switch, even though the agreement says, "all mechanical and manually operated switches" are covered. So much has gone wrong with this 2005 car with 53,000 miles on it that it reminds me of a Ford Pinto. DO NOT BUY A NISSAN!!! Pay the extra money and get a Toyota!!!! For me, back to the Sienna.....
Issues
'05 Quest S 93k
Brake Light and some other light flashes when cold. This happened very sporatically after about 6 months. Hasn't happened in a while.
After a long drive say like several hours. The heat/air vents wouldn't produce air through them. Again sporatic problem. Problem would only fix itself after letting it sit for several hours. I believe this has happened on 3 occasions. Dealer could not repeat the problem or find any problems.
Occasionally, the speakers don't work.
The suspension has been getting very loud over major bumps since about 50k.
No major problems as of yet.
Also, as an FYI. Mileage has been around 20.5 MPG.
our issues
We purchased ours in 2004, after the initial issues with 04's, if buying an 04, buy with VIN number higher than 48000, if I remember correctly. It was after that time that the engineers invaded the plant and fixed a lot of the initial issues.
Ours had all those fixes and the TSB's before we bought it.
We had the issue with the overhead console squeeking, which Nissan fixed under warranty (later TSB).
We then had the nut come off the bolt on the rear hatch lift causing it not to open on its own, which is also a TSB for the lack of a locking washer on the bolt, also fixed under warranty.
We then had the engine knock issue at 2800 RPM, that the engineers in TN found was due to the nylon timing chain guides in the engine wearing out, at 25k miles, they replaced the chain, glides, cam, sprockets, etc. also fixed under warranty. Those were sent to TN for evaluation, and now is a TSB for all Nissan 3.5 V6 engines from 04/05.
We have an ongoing issue with the armrest bolts coming unscrewed, no real fix from Nissan.
It does wear out tires in about 30k miles, which is odd.
We haven't had it in the garage for the last 50k miles.
Update --> 84,000 miles and 'both' front wheel bearings have gone bad. Replaced at dealer, $800.
We do love the van, the ride, the size for our three kids, the design and engine/tranny pep.
We'll buy Nissan again, but, that 2011 Sienna looks really nice...so, Nissan better get their act together on 'the next version'.

2004 Quest SE - 78k miles
Rear suspension
We have a 2004 Quest SE, 98000 miles and have been very happy since 2005, first 12 months it was in the shop 4 times for various issues. Water leaking into cabin , power door issues, etc. My current issue, if anyone knows, would be on how to replace the rear shocks. It seems as though I have no shocks when I hit a bump of hole.
Any ideas??
problem
I would have your lower control arms checked I bet the bushings are wore out and thats what you feel. I had the same problem thought it was my struts but wasnt.
